But Ryan Mulcahy, an Ideas colleague, points out another Globe prank, from 1974. Staff writer Monty Montgomery penned an April Fool's Day item about piranha in Massachusetts's Westfield River.  Writers who've fumed over delays in seeing their stories appear in print may get a chuckle out of the story's actual pub. date: April 13! Seems like the joke went awry.
