The Hospice of the Good Shepherd, a nonsectarian and nonprofit home care agency serving Newton, Wellesley, and Brookline, seeks home visit volunteers to provide comfort and support to people with life-limiting illnesses and to their families. Care is provided to individuals in their own homes and in nursing homes. A comprehensive volunteer training program will begin this spring. The Dorchester Scientology Volunteer Ministry seeks volunteers to teach phonics and study and reading skills. Free training and resources are available to other agencies. A collaboration between the Church of Scientology of Boston and the Codman Square Pharmacy, the ministry provides free literacy and nonviolence programs for the community. Its mission is to reduce the crime and violence of the inner city by addressing the underlying core issues.
