Playing the field at Fenway

Friendly Fenway will be full of cameras this summer, and we're not just talking about the jam of Japanese media that'll capture every curve thrown by Daisuke Matsuzaka. The producers of "Queer Eye" are teaming with NESN to create a reality TV show called "Sox Appeal." As explained to us yesterday by Scout Productions principal David Collins, the show sounds like MTV's mindless dating show "Next ," in which a single guy or girl takes three romantic hopefuls for a test drive before settling, or not, on one prospective sweetheart. But on "Sox Appeal," the dates take place at a Bosox game, with each wannabe getting two innings of attention. During the seventh-inning stretch, the guy or gal playing the field will decide which of the three dates he or she wants to watch the rest of the game with. "The waxing and waning of the game will affect the mood of the dates," said Collins. "We figure that'll add a little tension and drama to the blind date." Producers plan to hold casting calls this spring and tape the show over the course of eight home games. ("Sox Appeal" will start airing on NESN in July.) Asked if the show will feature same-sex dates, producer Eric Korsh said he's "open to anything." Korsh, who worked on "Queer Eye for the Red Sox ," in which Carson Kressley's crew manicured several Sox players, isn't worried about the reaction to gay dates. "We heard some stuff on talk radio about the Sox 'Queer Eye,' " he said. "But the response we got at Fenway was great."

'21' shoot drawing closer to Boston

The first big - budget film project slated to roll into town this year is "21," based on Boston author Ben Mezrich's bestseller "Bringing Down the House: The Inside Story of Six MIT Students Who Took Vegas for Millions." And the film, produced by Oscar-winner Kevin Spacey , who also will appear in "21," is getting some more star power. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Laurence Fishburne , Sergeant Whitey Powers in Clint Eastwood's big-screen adaptation of Dennis Lehane's "Mystic River," is in final negotiations to join the Robert Luketic -directed film. Shooting for "21" is set to begin in a couple of weeks in Boston and Las Vegas. Among the Boston locales scouted are the InterContinental Hotel and the Seaport area of South Boston.

RFK daughter directs Abu Ghraib film

The first of two documentaries about the Abu Ghraib prison scandal is at the Sundance Film Festival, and the director is none other than Ted Kennedy's kin, Rory . The youngest of RFK's 11 children told Reuters over the weekend that she hopes the film, "Ghosts of Abu Ghraib," which will be released in theaters and on HBO next month, prompts an investigation of the abuse at the Iraqi prison. Cambridge-based filmmaker Errol Morris is also working on a documentary about Abu Ghraib, and there's a chance his movie will be done in time for the Cannes Film Festival.

Brady passes on romance query

To his credit, Tom Brady didn't play ball when asked on WEEI yesterday about his rumored romance with Gisele Bundchen. Told that CBS football analyst Boomer Esiason had said the Pats QB might prefer to be with the super-skinny model than throwing TDs at the Super Bowl, No. 12 said, "I don't have much of a response for that." . . . Peter Simon, the Martha's Vineyard-based photographer who produced the seminal "Reggae Bloodlines" three decades ago, returned to Jamaica recently to work on another collection, "The Reggae Scrapbook," which will be released later this year. Reggae music has gained a lot in popularity over the years, he noted. "The kids really love it," the brother of Carly Simon told an Associated Press reporter in Kingston last week. "Back in 1976, a lot of people in the States didn't know how to pronounce reggae."

JC Chasez, former member of 'N Sync, posed for a lot of photographs and signed even more autographs while watching the Pats game Sunday night at "Game On!" . . . Trump Vodka launched in LA a few weeks ago and the likes of Kim Kardashian, Brittny Gastineau, and Donald Trump himself showed up. So there must be a bevy of beautiful people coming to town this week for the Boston launch, right? Well, depends on your definition of "beautiful." D-listers expected at Thursday's party at Duozo include "Apprentice" also-rans Nick Warnock, Chuck Soldano, Lenny Veltman, Dawn Silvia, Michael Tarshi, and, maybe, Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth. We're told the gang's being put up at the Park Plaza.
