Tyler versus Sanjaya

Anyone with even a passing interest in Aerosmith was appalled when guitarist Joe Perry joined irritating "American Idol" also-ran Sanjaya Malakar on stage. But the curious collaboration did make us wonder what, if anything, Sanjaya and Steven Tyler might have in common.

VOCAL CHOPS
Tyler's blues-drenched shriek makes him a rock original.
Are you serious?

Title of '93 Aerosmith smash hit.
Pathetic reaction of Sanjaya's No. 1 fan Ashley Ferl.

HAIR
Tyler's had the same highlighted tresses for 35 years.
Sanjaya's style changed every week.

SUBSTANCE ABUSE
He's clean now, but Tyler wasn't one of the Toxic Twins for nothing.
Sanjaya's mom and stepdad were busted after police found 310 pot plants in their garage.

Tyler does . . .
. . . but not as much as Sanjaya.

Sanjaya's 17-year-old sister Shyamali predicts big things for herself on her MySpace page.

DREAM ON
Title of an Aerosmith classic
Our advice to Sanjaya if he's considering a recording career.

WTKK apparently sticking with Barnicle
It looks like Mike Barnicle will replace fired radio jock Don Imus on chat station WTKK. He's been filling in ever since Imus got booted last month, running his mouth four hours a day, five days a week. Station types were mum yesterday about Barnicle's expanded gig or how the rest of the line up might shake out. Word is that WTKK parent Greater Media wants to stick with local voices in the early-morning slot. Still undecided: who might join Barnicle on-air. Boston Globe sports columnist Dan Shaughnessy and WBZ-TV sports guy Bob Lobel are both regulars. Globe staffer Charles Sennott recently joined the fray.

A hot time with (Perez) Hilton at Mansion
As the girl in the "Team Perez" T-shirt approached, gadfly gossip blogger Perez Hilton purred, "I love it," and wrapped his arms around her. In Boston for the first time to host a party at Mansion, Hilton was his snarky self as he sipped a glow-in-the-dark drink in the VIP area of Ed Kane's club. "There are so many hot girls here," said Hilton. "I wish I was straight." Hilton's sidekick for the evening was bawdy British rapper Lady Sovereign, who spent half her set inhaling the helium from balloons to deliver rhymes in a tiny rasp. "My mother bought me this," she shouted at point, lifting her oversize T-shirt to reveal a pink bra. "I hate pink, but I love me mother." The Lilliputian Lady Sov headed to her tour bus with former NBA center Paul Grant, who stands 7 feet tall.

Kennedy is biking now
Patrick Kennedy's gone green, though not by choice. The Washington Post reports that the Rhode Island congressman, who can't legally drive because he crashed his car while in a drug-induced haze last year, has become a big cycler. "I have a carbon - neutral way of life now," quipped Kennedy, whose habit of riding without a helmet has raised eyebrows around the Capitol. "I, um, I'm just riding back and forth to votes. I'm not going fast."
