Vineyard feud escalates

Things are getting ugly between Laurie David and her neighbors on the millionaires' redoubt better known as Martha's Vineyard. David, the global-warming warrior who recently separated from her husband, "Curb Your Enthusiasm" cutup Larry David, is battling abutters upset about her island McMansion. "It's been six years of trophy building, which creates a very large carbon footprint," neighbor Jackie Mendez-Diez told us yesterday. "It's huge hypocrisy. Laurie flies around in her private plane telling people what kind of car to drive, and she doesn't even know where the wetlands are on her own property." Mendez-Diez said she confronted David two weeks ago, and soon after was served with a no-trespass order by Chilmark police. Laurie, who is credited as a producer of Al Gore's Oscar-winning documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth," has made her name advocating for the environment. Still, she and Larry were ordered to make changes to their Martha's Vineyard manse after doing some of the work without town approval. "Personalities aside, there's been an incredible amount of land disturbance and development, and there's been very little public scrutiny," says Ian Fein, a reporter at the Vineyard Gazette. "They've taken an area that was largely undeveloped and turned it into 'Camp David,' as they call it." Even more interesting, since her separation, Laurie has been seen around town with a prominent island contractor -- one who worked on her house, no less. What gives? David's publicist, Heather Lylis, had no comment yesterday.

Nuptials for Brady?
Gisele Bundchen
to be a bride? This summer? That's the word from the folks at In Touch Weekly. Citing an unnamed fashion photographer as its source, the magazine claims the Brazilian supermodel may wed Tom Brady before football season starts. "It's all anyone can talk about," the shutterbug says. "It's all secretive, but we know Gisele is working out all the details. It definitely will be a simple affair, that's her style." And where might the wedding take place? Brazil. "She wants to have a ceremony where all of her family and friends can share her special day with her," says the photographer. Word is Brady and Bundchen, insep arable in recent months, will spend Bundchen's 27th birthday at her place in Costa Rica.

Springfield, Vt., wins
D'oh! Springfield, Mass., won't be hosting the official premiere of "The Simpsons Movie." Instead, the honor goes to Springfield, Vt. -- population 9,300 -- thanks to a short video about Homer Simpson chasing a giant, rolling doughnut through town. Fourteen cities named Springfield (home of TV's favorite animated family) posted 5-minute films on USA Today's website, and the public voted for the winner over the past week. "I almost drove off the road when I heard," said Vermont television producer Tim Kavanagh, who played Homer. Springfield, Mass., placed fourth with 11,442 votes, behind Vermont, Oregon, and Illinois. "If it had to be anyone else, I'm glad it was Vermont," said David Horgan, director of the Massachusetts video. "The smallest state -- the one that everyone thought had no chance -- won it all." Each participating Springfield will host its own premiere on July 26, but Vermont gets first dibs on July 21. "We've never hosted a movie premiere, but we're ecstatic," said Patricia Chaffee of the Springfield, Vt., Chamber of Commerce.

Eyeing 'Bachelor' pads
Want to have Dane Cook or Kate Hudson over to your spacious Back Bay or South End apartment? Location scouts for Cook's new movie, "Bachelor No. 2," have blanketed the two swanky neighborhoods with fliers announcing they're looking to rent large apartments to film in. Scouts also have been spotted around town looking for restaurants to use in various scenes, we're told. Cook's production company, Superfinger Entertainment, is working with Lions Gate Films on the movie, which starts filming here next month. Cook stars as "Tank," a guy paid to take women out on awful dates so they'll see what great guys their ex-beaus really were. Hudson is on tap to play Cook's love interest.

Wade exits Fox 25
Natalie Jacobson
's announcement that she's stepping down wasn't the day's only local TV anchor news. David Wade left Fox 25 News yesterday, and his seat wasn't even cold before the station announced that Mark Ockerbloom will co-anchor with Maria Stephanos. Wade's contract at the station expired recently. He was reportedly being shopped around town by his agent, and had a screen test at WBZ-TV. (WBZ folks said they don't have a contract with Wade.) Things came to a head yesterday morning, after Wade sent out an e-mail saying he was leaving Fox 25. According to insiders, Wade was escorted from the station an hour later. Ockerbloom, a Winchester native, started at the station in 2004.

Little and Big Papi go yard
David Ortiz
showed off his new Reebok cleats before last night's All-Star Game. With some Bay Area little leaguers looking on, Big Papi donned the sweet shoes and hit a few balls into McCovey's Cove. The game was something of a family affair for the Sox slugger, whose adorable son D'Angelo looked like a future Hall of Famer on the field.

These dolls come to life
The gals from "Bratz: The Movie" stopped by the YMCA on Huntington Avenue yesterday to introduce themselves to some young summer campers. Actresses Nathalia Ramos (Yasmin), Janel Parrish (Jade), Logan Browning (Sasha), and Skyler Shaye (Cloe) , who play the on-screen best friends, proved they were anything but bratty as they signed a few hundred autographs, posed for pictures, and chatted with the camp attendees. The film, based on the popular dolls, opens Aug. 3.

Ray cools troubled-marriage rumors
Perky TV foodie Rachael Ray was running around New York yesterday to announce a $25,000 donation from Dunkin' Donuts to Denis Leary's firefighters foundation for its work in rebuilding firehouses in New Orleans. But the spokesgal for the Canton-based coffee company found herself trailed by media asking her about the state of her marriage to wannabe rocker John Cusimano. "I don't know where [those stories] come from, I really don't. We couldn't be happier," Ray told the syndicated TV show "Extra" yesterday. Ray added that she thinks she's got quite a catch. "I've got a lawyer, a great cook, and a rocker all in one guy. I would never give him back, not for nothing."

Rhymes rejects plea deal
Rapper Busta Rhymes (inset), accused of attacking two men, driving drunk, and driving with a suspended license, has rejected a plea deal and is facing four separate trials. Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Larry Stephen yesterday denied the prosecution's motion to consolidate the two assault charges against Rhymes. The hip-hop star is accused of beating a fan, and beating and kicking a former employee, last year. Rhymes, 35, whose real name is Trevor Smith, was arrested in May for the fourth time in less than a year, that time on a drunken driving charge. He allegedly admitted then that he had drunk a single shot of cognac about an hour earlier. (AP)

Spelling has a new role: reverend
Tori Spelling
is now available for weddings. "Yep, that's right . . . Reverend Tori Spelling! I did it last week online and my official certificate is in the mail. I'm so proud," the 34-year-old actress said in a posting Monday on the MySpace.com site she shares with her husband, Dean McDermott. Spelling officiated at a same-sex union last weekend at Chateau La Rue, the bed-and-breakfast that she and McDermott run in Fallbrook, Calif., on their Oxygen network unscripted series, "Tori & Dean: Inn Love," her spokeswoman, Meghan Prophet, said yesterday. James Bond will soon be back, in bookstores. According to the Doubleday Broadway Publishing Group, "Devil May Care" is set during the Cold War and, like so many Bond adventures, moves about a variety of scenic locales. Fleming died in 1964. The Bond series has continued over the past 40 years, with Kingsley Amis and John Gardner among those writing stories. (AP)

End of line for Combs, Porter

A publicist for the 37-year-old rap mogul confirmed that he and model Kim Porter were no longer together. On Dec. 21, Porter gave birth to daughters D'Lila Star and Jessie James; the couple also have a son together. (AP)
