Local firm gets a movie makeover
Kate Hudson reported for work yesterday to film the first scenes for "Bachelor No. 2" at the Seaport offices of the mega-law firm Foley Hoag. Hudson and costar Jason Biggs play lawyers in the Howie Deutch-directed film that also stars Arlington native Dane Cook. Crews from the comedy took over the waterfront headquarters to transform a conference room into Hudson's swanky office and a nearby associate's office into Biggs's digs. The film's design crews tapped Foley Hoag staff -- Mark Young, Jeff Scalzi, and Meghan Magner -- to help make the settings more authentic. "We helped with some small touches," Magner told us yesterday. But Foley Hoag's brush with Hollywood is short lived. "By [this] morning it will be scrubbed clean," Magner said. "You'll never know they were here." . . . And "The Women" starring Meg Ryan, Debra Messing, Annette Bening, and Jada Pinkett-Smith also started filming in downtown Boston yesterday. "We are ecstatic to be able to film our story in Boston," director Diane English said in a statement. "The city has it all."

What started off as a scam ended up as one of the best concerts Haverhill's ever seen. Former "American Idol" finalist Elliott Yamin performed on Saturday night at Winnekenni Castle as part of Haverhill Rocks! But Yamin's appearance wasn't always a guarantee. An agent claiming he had connections to the singer duped the event's organizers into believing he could get Yamin to attend the concert, but it turned out they couldn't afford his normal fee, according to the Lawrence Eagle-Tribune. When Yamin heard about the mishap, the popular singer "cut his regular fee" and performed at the show, the newspaper reported.
Tommy Lee out for a spin
"Bachelor No. 2" actor Jason Biggs and Sox pitcher Josh Beckett were both at Mansion Boston when bad boy rocker Tommy Lee was in the DJ booth hosting a dance session late Friday night. Although the Motley Crue drummer set up an electronic drum machine, he stuck mostly to spinning tunes and goading people to take to the dance floor.
For the fourth year in a row, Ted Kennedy and his boat, "Weatherly," won the Nantucket Charity Classic 12-meter Regatta. The senator noted that it was a bit of a family affair; helping him out as his crew were his wife, Vicki, and son Ted Kennedy Jr. and his wife, Kiki. The competition, which supports the Nantucket Community Sailing program, takes place over two days. Kennedy sealed his victory on Friday night.
Longtime Martha's Vineyard summer resident Walter Cronkite may be delaying getting hitched to his girlfriend, Joanna Simon , because his four children are concerned about his estate, the New York Post's Page Six column reported yesterday. The 90-year-old retired news anchor, who met Simon -- sister of singer Carly and photographer Peter -- on the island, has been under pressure from his children to delay a wedding until legal issues can be resolved. However, the Big Apple tabloid quotes Cronkite's rep as saying that's bunk. "That is not true as far as I know. They're not getting married and that's a decision he and she made and has nothing to do with the children."
