'Restless Virgins' to TV

Didn't take long for the TV rights to "Restless Virgins: Love, Sex, and Survival at a New England Prep School" to be snapped up. Paula Silver, whose past projects include "Mr. Holland's Opus" and "Boyz N the Hood," acquired the rights to Abigail Jones and Marissa Miley's controversial book about teens and sex at prestigious Milton Academy. The terms of the deal, brokered by Boston literary agent John Taylor "Ike" Williams of Fish & Richardson, were not released.

A switch for fashion GM
Mary Nobile-King, one of the hotshots of Boston's retail fashion scene, is leaving her post as GM of the Marc Jacobs stores. But fear not, fashionistas, she'll be running the nearby Chanel boutique at the Taj Hotel. Nobile-King opened the Marc Jacobs store here in 2004 and a Provincetown outpost in April. The Newbury Street opening party - where guests were barred from entering unless they were clad only in white - has become part of Boston fashion lore not just because Marc Jacobs sported a fencing uniform but because Simon LeBon and his Duran Duran bandmates crashed the swanky soiree.

Brady fields questions
Rick Reilly gets our boy Tom Brady to open up in the new issue of Sports Illustrated. Number 12 tells the snarky SI columnist that he's hoping to spend more time with new baby John. "I kind of cuddled him like a football," says the signal-caller, describing his first father-son moment in LA. "I'd love to be out there all the time, year-round, but it's hard to make that a reality. I live here. But I'll start lobbying for off days throughout the year." Calling himself a "little sports nerd" in high school, the Super Bowl champ can hardly believe his celebrity status these days. "I get so embarrassed having everybody looking at me," he says. "I just want to stop and go, 'What are you staring at?' I have to disguise myself now. I never go out without a hoodie on. My head is always down! I never make eye contact anymore! It's like I'm not even myself!" So if he's all that, why doesn't the Pats QB shamelessly pitch more products like his pal Peyton Manning? "You realize you're turning down a lot of dough, yeah, but it's just not me. I'm just not going to go out and do a Chunky Soup ad." As for dating advice: "You can't let them know you're that interested. I try to get this across to my best friend. He's really into this girl, but I keep telling him she's got to leave that date thinking, 'What's wrong with me?' " And when he's ready to seal the deal, what does Brady put on the stereo? "Definitely not Metallica. And no girl music, like Madonna. Something in between. John Legend always works for me."

Hopping into town
Like "Lonelygirl15" and "Star Wars kid," Matt Harding is a full-blown Internet phenomenon. A few years back, the Connecticut native quit his day job and started traveling around the world. At the Taj Mahal in India and Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Harding videotaped himself doing a ridiculous dance, and then posted the clips on YouTube. "They were just something to show my friends and family," he says. "But I found a much larger audience." You can say that again. Harding's high jinks have been viewed millions of times on the Internet, prompting him to continue crisscrossing the globe. (As you might expect, he's got his own website now and even a sponsor: Stride gum.) Today, Harding, who's 30, will be shooting his new viral video at the Boston Common Frog Pond. As much as he's looking forward to being in Boston, Harding said his favorite locales tend to be far-flung. "Antarctica is hard to beat."

Berklee alum steps up
Saxophonist, vocalist, composer, and arranger Lance Bryant won the Steppin' Out talent competition held at Scullers Jazz Club on Monday. The Berklee College alum who hails from just outside Chicago earned $500 and a spot onstage at the Nov. 3 Steppin' Out gala, a benefit for Dimock Community Health Center. The lineup also includes George Benson, Vivian Green, Freddie Jackson, Cyrus Chestnut, Joey DeFrancesco, and Rebecca Parris.

Something to cheer about
Not only are the Pats in fine form, but so are their cheerleaders, who celebrated the release of their new swimsuit calendar last night with a party at Paddy O's. The pompom princesses were on hand to greet fans and sign autographs. The glossy calendar includes 24 steamy photos - not to mention the cover with cheerleaders Alysha Castonguay and Meghan White - that were taken in April in Punta Cana and the Dominican Republic.

Furniture fit for an earl
With the rain and fog blanketing Boston, the private jet of Charles, the 9th Earl Spencer, couldn't land at Logan yesterday. So Princess Diana's brother journeyed from New York by car to unveil the Althorp Collection - a new line of furniture based on pieces in his family's ancestral home - at the Boston Design Center. "When I walk into a showroom it feels like a lunatic has broken into my house and rearranged the furniture," Spencer said with a smile. Among those on the guest list for the event were Britain's Consul General Phil Budden, Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray, Hizzoner Tom Menino, Congressman Mike Capuano, City Councilor Sal LaMattina, and state Senator Anthony Petruccelli.

Blitzing the linebacker
Pats linebacker Tedy Bruschi was at the Borders in Braintree last night signing copies of his book - written with former Globie Michael Holley - called "Never Give Up: My Stroke, My Recovery, and My Return to the NFL."
