You, me, and the DNC

Your guide to a boat-load of convention-themed events. For the love of Dukakis, get ready to party.

History is about to made right here in our sleepy hamlet. On the doorstep of the dog days, nearly 5,000 Democratic delegates and their families will flood Boston for the Democratic National Convention, along with a boat-load of politicians, 16,000 reporters, and enough left-leaning celebs to put a big smile on Barbra Streisand's face.

With so much excitement in the offing, what are most Bostonians planning to do? Sadly, they're planning to flee.

But before you escape to the Cape or lock the family away in your secret backyard bunker, think of all you'll be missing. The glitz, the glamor, plus Montel Williams and Christina Ricci. Did the residents of Boston shutter their windows when Paul Revere rode through town simply because they were annoyed by his Anglophobic ranting? Certainly not. Nor should you run away just because major highways will be closed, parking will be next to impossible, and travel on the MBTA will be slower and more cumbersome than hooking up a buggy to a team of house cats.

The trade off for this inconvenience, however, is a slew of DNC-themed events: parties, comedy, art, movies, and a dessert called the Kerry Berry Cobbler. Start cancelling that time-share in Hyannis and, for the love of Dukakis, get ready to party.
