A designer proves you don't have to gut your kitchen to get a whole new look.

An antique French iron baker's table (left) adds to the Provencal theme and fills a practical as well as aesthetical role. By replacing a wall of cabinets with a simple grid of shelving (right), Paula Daher made the room feel more open. The large corner pantry offers plenty of storage. Plaid taffeta panels dress up the doors and hide an undercounter dishwasher.
