Special Transfer
After returning late to Logan Airport from an exhausting business trip, I spotted a Silver Line bus while I was still inside Terminal A and started to run, hauling my heavy suitcase. But the moment I reached the stop, the driver closed the door and left me behind. The driver of a car-rental shuttle honked twice at me before I figured what he was up to. I jumped on his empty shuttle, and he quickly drove me to the next stop at Terminal B, where he blocked the very same bus. I boarded and waved goodbye to my unknown helper.

ROAD RAVE
In late August on the Minuteman Bikeway in Bedford, an elderly woman taking her morning constitutional with the help of a walker had stopped to rest. She was looking at something just ahead. I squinted against sunshine, then jammed my bike's brakes: A doe was making her stately crossing of the bike path. The woman and I watched as a spotted fawn joined her and the two turned up the whites of their tails and bounded off into the woods. "Wonderful!" the woman exclaimed. Neither of us could wipe the silly grins off our faces. Wonderful, indeed.
