baby Cape Cod in yellow kitchen
Jamaica Plain, Oct. 5: This was the story on evacuees from Hurricane Katrina. Dionne White was looking for an apartment for her family. ... They had to drive up from Camp Edwards in Bourne. So she's carrying the baby, and she says, "Oh, this is a nice kitchen," and she just puts the baby down on the kitchen floor. And then it's just me and Cape Cod. He was born after the hurricane. When she got off the plane, they said, "Welcome to Cape Cod," and she said, "I'm gonna name my baby Cape Cod." There was this morning light coming through the kitchen window, and the room was just glowing.... To me, Cape Cod is this symbol of survival, of coming to Massachusetts.
