Meet the designers
MIRIAM PERLOV
22, Boston, senior at Massachusetts College of Art
I met pretty, pretty Amy Koski and her mom, and they were both so sweet and cooperative. I always get a little nervous and shy when I have to let people into my work, but they made me feel comfortable, and I tried to do the same as I took Amy's measurements.  Read more

LAUREN GAUTHIER
21, Newton, senior at Lasell College
The past two weeks since the Globe article came out have been so crazy. My sisters actually looked up the article on the website the Saturday night before it came out, and everyone who was in the house, including two of my good friends, went running and screaming down the stairs to see it.  Read more
SUJUNG CHO

I had the first muslin dress fitting last weekend. There was some adjusting to do around the waist and hip area. Overall it went very well.  Read more
Meet the prom-goers
Project Prom -- Amy Koski
Amy Koski, 18
Student at Holy Name Central Catholic Junior/Senior High School in Worcester
Winner of Miriam Perlov’s dress

Her Winning Entry:
There once was a tall girl named Amy.
Her high school was called Holy Name-y.
She liked to buy clearance clothes from Express,
And wear cute pinstriped vests on sale from Guess.
Sometimes she dressed a teeny bit prep,
But could not afford the clothes that were hep.
She liked to dress up and wear very high heels,
But her school uniform was not huge in appeal.
No classmates or teachers knew she really was pretty,
A school sweater could make Pam Anderson look the role of old bitty.
Amy searched for dresses but to no avail;
They were too short, the chest was too small, or they were priced full-scale.
This year she wanted a classy-type gown,
But they were all $350+ in the city and towns.
She wanted her peers to “ooh” and “ahh,”
Then her father showed her the Globe -- a contest -- voila!
The first dress she saw shined like no other --
The pearls and the waist and the beautiful color!
She saw Ms. Perlov’s dress, elegant and perfect.
Amy knew if she won it, she would totally work it.
Though body not perfect, she was 6’1” and thin;
Amy hoped that the judges would pick her to win.
Project Prom -- Dana Jamieson
Dana Jamieson, 16
Student at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School
Winner of Bopha Nina Toun’s dress

Her Winning Entry:
As a Metco student, I get up at 4:30 in the morning and head out for an hour commute to school and get home around 7:30 after athletic practice. Although I do not have a lot of time for a full social life, I am well liked and well known by my classmates. I work really hard in the classroom as well as on the track. This year, however, has not exactly been my year. Lincoln-Sudbury has recently experienced the loss of one of the freshman students. The stabbing that occurred between two students is something that I witnessed and am having a hard time getting over. Though the school is finally resuming to normal, it has been really hard for me to pull through.

This past season of indoor track and field has also been a letdown for me. I had a good chance at becoming the holder of the state title in the 600m race and was also part of the 4X8 relay team that was ranked number one in New England. Unfortunately, I found that I had a stress fracture in my right tibia and was not able to participate in Class As, States, and New Englands. Now that I am finally recovering from my stress fracture, I want to make sure that this year ends on a highly positive note. I want to be able to look back on my junior year prom and remember how great my junior year was.
Project Prom -- Celismarie Hernandez
Celismarie Hernandez, 18
Student at Lowell High School
Winner of Lauren Gauthier’s dress

Her Winning Entry:
I used to be very into sneakers and just ordinary clothes, but this year my style has taken a totally different turn. Everything I wear seems to be retro and punk. I love colors, polka dots, beads, flats, pumps, and heels. I was fascinated by the dress designed by Lauren Gauthier -- it caught my attention very quickly. I find the design suits my style. I love to be unique. I wouldn’t only want to win this contest for the fashion show but because I would love to meet Lauren, because I feel we like the same style and meeting someone as talented as her would be a pleasure. If I don’t win this contest, I must still give props to the designer. I wish her success.
Project Prom -- Aimee Nehiley
Aimee Nehiley, 17
Student at Whitman-Hanson Regional High School
Winner of Sujung Cho’s dress

Her Winning Entry:
It’s Sunday morning around 10 and I’m just rolling out of bed when my mom bursts into the room. “Aimee, I found you the perfect dress!” Still a little weary-eyed, I look at the magazine article she is flashing in my face, and there it is, the dress.

My senior prom is going to be a monumental night that I will remember for the rest of my life. My four years of high school have flown by, and my senior prom marks the end. What makes this night even more special is the person I will be spending it with. My boyfriend of two years, Mike, is a US Marine. He is on active duty, and prom will be my first chance to see him in four months. I want the night to be perfect, and I want to be wearing the perfect dress.
