Walter Anderson, at 84; Wentworth administrator
Walter C. Anderson, 84, retired president of Wentworth Technical Schools, died July 23 at Bay Path Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Duxbury.
Born in Sweden, Mr. Anderson grew up in Quincy. After earning a degree in accounting at Bentley College, he was employed by
After the war, he earned a master's degree in business management at Northeastern University before becoming business manager of Thayer Academy in 1947.
Mr. Anderson held the post at Thayer for 20 years before becoming assistant treasurer and comptroller of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
In 1972, he became assistant to the president for finance of Wentworth Institute. He later was named vice president of the school.
He was also president of Wentworth Technical Schools, a division of the school that offered classes at satellite locations, for three years prior to his 1990 retirement.
Mr. Anderson leaves four daughters, Gail Reed of Plainville, Lynn Nichols of Fort Worth, Lisa Roderick of Ocala, Fla., Lora Goldman of Duxbury; a son, Carl of Hebron, N.H.; a sister, Signe Roberts of Marshfield; and 13 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. today in the Lutheran Church of the Cross in Hanover.
