Lance O. Hawkins
Lance O. ''Rattlesnake" Hawkins, 64, of Lynn, a Navy veteran and self-proclaimed jack-of-all-trades, died Feb. 18. Serving in the Navy during the Vietnam War, he was stationed at Guantanamo Bay and traveled throughout the Caribbean. A New York native, he lived in Cambridge and Somerville before settling in Lynn. After working a number of jobs, including as a machinist for the Salem-based Parker Brothers toy company, he spent 12 years working as a handyman for the Lynn School Department. He acquired the CB radio handle ''Rattlesnake" during his frequent usage of the device, said his daughter, Louise Beaupre of Lynn. He was a member of VFW Post 1240 in Swampscott, where a ceremony is planned in his honor on March 29 at 11 a.m. In addition to his daughter, he leaves his wife, Patricia (McGrath); two sons, Lance B. and Daniel C., both of Framingham; a brother, Glenn of Saddlebrook, N.J.; and two grandsons.
Louis P. Borghesani
Louis P. Borghesani, a retired accounting manager, died Feb. 19 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Brockton. He was 77. Mr. Borghesani was a native of Plymouth. Three days after graduating from Kingston High School in 1947, he enlisted in the Army, where he attended radio school and became a Morse code intercept operator assigned to the National Security Agency. During the Korean War he served in France for 16 months as a radio operator. He was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant in 1952. Mr. Borghesani received a degree in accounting from Bentley College. He worked briefly at Price Waterhouse in New York City before joining Dun & Bradstreet in Boston. Mr. Borghesani was active in barbershop quartets for 20 years. He was a communicant of St. Joseph the Worker Church in Hanson and the Holy Ghost Church in Whitman. He was predeceased by his wife, Gloria. He leaves three daughters, Sheree Legge of Middleborough, Linda Jenkins of Westford, and Lisa Carco of Plymouth; a brother, Alton of Kingston; two sisters, Claire Govoni of Plympton and Mary Leonardi of Barnstable; a son, James of Duxbury, and seven grandchildren. Services have been held.
Carol M. Sullivan
Carol M. Sullivan, a retiredBoston insurance agent, died Feb. 28 at Norwell Nursing Center. She was 83. Formerly of West Roxbury, Ms. Sullivan had lived in Hingham for nearly 30 years. She worked as an insurance agent for John Hancock Financial Services in Boston. A vocalist, she sang with the Handel & Haydn Society of Boston and the Fine Arts Chorale of the South Shore. She also was active in both state and national politics, and served as treasurer of the Edward W. Brooke Senate campaign committee. Ms. Sullivan leaves two sisters, Barbara of Hingham and Jeanne Bernard of Reading; and a brother, Roger W. of Hingham. A funeral Mass will be said today at 10 a.m. in St. Paul's Church in Hingham.![]()
