Kay Gardella, 82; was Daily News television critic

NEW YORK -- Kay Gardella, a television critic for the New York Daily News for almost 60 years, has died in Manhattan. She was 82.

Ms. Gardella died Wednesday after a long battle with cancer, the paper said.

Born in Belleville, N.J., Ms. Gardella joined the News as a copy girl in 1946. She worked on lifestyle and crime stories before moving to the television beat as the industry took wing.

Ms. Gardella became radio and television editor in 1975 and television critic in 1981. She began writing a weekly column in 1993
