L. Scott Doane, who for four decades safely guided vessels -- from Queen Elizabeth II's yacht to tankers the length of two football fields -- through the buoys, beacons, shoals, and underwater hazards of Boston Harbor, died June 25 at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth.
