Johnson Lee, 62, physics researcher

Johnson Lee, a physics researcher, died of lymphoma Sunday in Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. He was 62.

Born in Hsinchu, Taiwan as Lee Tzung Sun, he graduated from Chung Yuan Christian University and earned a master's degree from National Tsing Hua University. Dr. Lee moved to the United States with his wife, Mei-Feng, in 1973. He received a doctorate from Illinois Institute of Technology.

The Needham resident worked as a research physicist at GTE Laboratories in Waltham. He returned to Chung Yuan Christian University as a visiting professor and wrote about 80 papers on applied physics. "He was a great teacher in academics and in life," said his son Clark of Laurel, Md.

In addition to his son and wife, Dr. Lee leaves another son, Nicholas Patrick of Needham; two brothers, Lee Tzung Lian and Lee Tzung Yuan, both of Tapai; and a sister, Su Lee Chiu Yueh of Xindian, Taiwan.

Friends and family will gather at Eaton Funeral Home at noon tomorrow. Burial will be at Needham Cemetery.
