The board voted 3-2 to increase the cost of small bags from $1.25 to $1.50 and large bags from $2.50 to $3. The increase is expected to go into effect Jan. 1. Town Engineer Frederic E. Litchfield Jr. told selectmen that a 48 percent fee hike was required to cover new rates at the Wheelabrator incinerator in Millbury. Selectmen Jeff Amberson and William Pantazis voted against hiking the bag fee; in the past, they have favored a tax override to help cover trash costs. -- Carolyn Kessel Stewart Posted by the Boston Globe City & Region Desk at 08:00 PM
