« Raising money off the cuff | Main | Wrentham rep explains marriage vote change » Thursday, June 14, 2007New tax in Millis takes effectMILLIS Property owners will notice a new charge on their tax bills next month. The July bills will be the first to include a fee that residents approved last year by voting to opt in on the state's Community Preservation Act. The law provides state matching funds to towns that add a "surcharge" to their tax bills. The money can be spent on open space, affordable housing, and historical buildings and landscapes. In Millis, a 1 percent charge will be added to tax bills, but the first $100,000 of property value is exempt from the charge. The average household will pay an extra $34.90 per year, Town Administrator Charles Aspinwall said. – Calvin Hennick Posted by the Boston Globe City & Region Desk at 04:07 PM
