Dr. Anita Barry is currently the Director of the Infectious Disease Bureau at the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC). From 1984 until October 2008 she was the Director of the BPHC Communicable Disease Control Division. She received her undergraduate degree in Biology from Georgetown University, completed her medical degree at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and received an MPH at the Boston University School of Public Health. She completed her internship, residency and infectious disease fellowship at the Boston City Hospital. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease, and continues to provide clinical care in those areas. Over the past 20 years on the front lines of local public health, she has addressed issues ranging from tuberculosis in the homeless to anthrax / white powder scares.
