
When Massachusetts General Hospital helped found Partners HealthCare, the Boston hospital had already been a storied institution for generations.
1821: Mass. General's original structure, the Bulfinch building, opened with the first patient, a sailor with syphilis. Until the Charles River was filled in to make way for a growing urban population, patients and supplies were often ferried in by boat.
