Marketing mavens, Part 1

WBUR's three-part series on the shortage of primary care doctors facing the nation was called "The Doctor Can't See You Now."

But underwriter Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates was telling a different story in the "brought-to-you-by" segment last week. Its copy said doctors are welcoming new patients at most of its 21 medical practices. Dr. Les Schwab, interim chief medical officer, confirmed today that there are indeed openings, the fruit of success in recruiting new physicians and streamlining patient visits (lab tests beforehand, some shared medical appointments).

"Our doctors can see you now," the 'BUR message said.
