Concierge medicine for summering on the Vineyard
A couple of emergency room doctors at Martha's Vineyard Hospital with mainland jobs in Boston and Providence have a sideline business offering medical care to the island's summer residents -- complete with house calls and round-the-clock service, according to a story in today's Martha's Vineyard Times.
Like other examples of concierge medicine, it's not cheap. Lifeguard Medical Group, founded last year by Dr. Sean Kelly and Dr. Jeffrey Zack, caters to seasonal visitors willing to spend as much as $15,000 per family to get coverage from Memorial Day to Columbus Day. Kelly also works at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Zack also works at Rhode Island Hospital.
"We act like their primary care physicians' and specialists' eyes, ears, and brains on the Island," Kelly told the Vineyard paper. "We're kind of like an extension of them, to coordinate their patients' care and harmonize, rather than being another cook in the kitchen."

Apparently, MD also stands for Moneygrubbing Dollargrabber......
What a great idea! I am sure many seasonal residents can go to the Vineyard now and really relax!
