  1. All we ever hear is how great is the need for primary care physicians and then once again the priority is flipped. In the last line it mentions what should have come first and what should make Massachusetts proud.

When it comes to educating primary care physicians the University of Massachusetts Medical School ranks far higher than Harvard and Tufts. BU wasn't even ranked. Congratulations to UMMS!

  1. It is hard to imagine a medical school ranked 7th in primary care with no Department of Family Medicine. How many Harvard docs does it take to take to provide comprehensive care to a mildly depressed female with pelvic pain and a sick infant - three - primary care medicine, GYN and pediatrics. How many family docs does it take - ONE !!! This is true primary care and the real story.

  1. Just to clarify the comment by Mark, the school ranked 7th in primary care is UMass, which indeed does have a department of Family Medicine.

  1. Ugh. Thank you so much for your comment, whatsthematter. This country desperately needs primary care physicians. Yet, when the medical school rankings come out, all we hear about are the research rankings. The primary care rankings are discounted.
