Man Faces Drunk Driving Charges in Fatal Crash

A West Springfield man is facing drunk driving charges after a fatal crash in Springfield early Sunday morning.

Rudra Kafley, 22, was charged with operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a marked lanes violation.

Police said Kafley crashed his 2011 Nissan Altima into a tractor trailer parked in the shoulder of Route 291 near exit 4.

A passenger in Kafley’s car was found dead at the scene. Kafley was taken to Baystate Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The truck’s operator was not in the vehicle at the time of the collision and was uninjured.

The name of the victim has not yet been released.
