The Massachusetts State Police announced new security measures Thursday for July 4 events on the Esplanade.
This year, police said in a press release that bicycles will not be allowed into secure areas (like the Oval and the Lagoon/Island areas). Though bikes will be allowed throughout the rest of the Esplanade, they cannot be left unattended, and cannot be locked to fences, poles or other structures.
Because of construction on the Longfellow Bridge, fireworks cannot be viewed there.
Additionally, the fireworks barges have been moved westward, closer to the Massachusetts Avenue Bridge, so no boaters will be allowed between the bridge and the barges.
Other prohibited items include:
-Coolers on wheels
-Grilling, propane tanks or open flames
