WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

Newton North grad on three teams at Connecticut

Former Newton North High School girls' ice hockey captain and Bay State League All-Star Kate Reardon is now a sophomore at Connecticut College, where she plays three varsity sports.

Reardon is a defender on the women's lacrosse team, goalkeeper on the field hockey team, and this past season, she led the women's ice hockey team in scoring, with nine goals and six assists, to help the team earn its first New England Small College Athletic Conference tournament berth.

"Kate has been a steady contributor to our program for the past two years," said women's ice hockey head coach Kristin Steele. "She not only led our team in goals and assists this season, she has also become a fantastic defensive force. Along with the rest of her class, Kate provides our team with a great base to build on."

Reardon, who had seven goals and six assists as a college freshman hockey player, played four sports while at Newton North High. She played one season of soccer, two years of field hockey, three seasons of softball, and four years of ice hockey. As a high school hockey player, Reardon was a second-team Eastern Mass. All-Star. One of her memorable games came as a junior, when she scored a goal in the third overtime to give North a 2-1 tournament win over Martha's Vineyard. During her senior season, she had a big game against Natick when she scored all of her team's goals in a 3-0 victory.

Reardon also attended Phillips Exeter Academy as a post-graduate student and participated in field hockey, ice hockey, and lacrosse. At Connecticut College, Reardon has also been a tower of strength for the field hockey team, which won two games her freshman year and improved to 6-8 last fall. She has appeared in 18 career games with 12 starts and a 2.27 goals against average.

"Kate has been a major contributor to our team," said head field hockey coach Debbie Lavigne. "She is a strong competitor who gives 100 percent and expects the same from her teammates. Kate was in goal when we defeated Wesleyan and Springfield [both by 1-0 scores] for the first time in six years, and she's a talented and natural athlete."
