A grand jury returned indictments yesterday against four men who allegedly took part in the killing of a 19-year-old Lowell man in June, although the alleged shooter and an accomplice remain on the run, according to Middlesex District Attorney Martha Coakley's office.
Ponorith Uong was shot in the chest near 45 Branch St. in Lowell on June 24 and died after arriving at Lowell General Hospital.
Yesterday, Daniel Kung, 24, of Revere, was charged with Uong's murder. He remains at large, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest, according to the district attorney's office. Authorities are also seeking Samnang Meas, 23, of Lowell, an alleged accessory to Uong's murder, who is also charged with five counts of illegal firearms possession.
Police arrested Jonathan Guzman, 20, of Lawrence, on June 29 and he pleaded not guilty at his arraignment the next day to charges of assisting Kung and Meas in fleeing the scene of the murder. Guzman is being held on bail pending an appearance in Superior Court to answer the indictment charges.
In addition, Chansarom Sreng, 17, of Lowell, is charged with perjury for allegedly lying to a grand jury during the investigation of Uong's killing. A court date has not yet been set for Sreng.
