John Loveridge, 79; dance champion

John Loveridge, 79; dance champion
John Loveridge of Beverly, an award-winning ballroom dancer, died March 8 at Beverly Hospital. He was 79.

Born in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, Mr. Loveridge was raised in Everett and graduated from Everett High School. He served in the Army during the Korean War.

He worked for more than 40 years as a manager for the John Hancock Company. After he retired, he volunteered at the Kindred Hospital North Shore and the Lahey Clinic Northshore Hospital, both in Peabody.

He loved ballroom dancing and traveled all over the East Coast, where he won numerous awards for his skill. He enjoyed bingo and crossword puzzles.

He was married to the late Marion C. (Madigan) Loveridge.

Mr. Loveridge leaves three sons, James T. Loveridge, Mark S. Loveridge of Weymouth, and John D. Loveridge of Lawrence; a daughter, Ann Marie Zarba ofBeverly; and four grandchil-dren.

Anthony DiPietro; 22-year serviceman
A military man and a former member of the Peabody Planning Board, Anthony J. DiPietro of Peabody died March 5 at Salem Hospital after a short illness. He was 78.

Born in Belmont, Mr. DiPietro attended Belmont schools. He had lived in Peabody for the past 39 years. Mr. DiPietro spent 22 years in the military, serving during World War II and in the Korean War. He served four of those years in the Navy and 18 in the Army, obtaining the rank of Master Sergeant.

He later worked as a postal carrier in Peabody for 19 years until he retired in 1985.

Mr. DiPietro was was a member of the VFW Belmont Waverly Post and of the Peabody Elks Lodge 1409. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, traveling, walking, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He leaves his wife of 52 years, Rose (Lavorante) DiPietro; two sons, Anthony J. DiPietro Jr. of Danvers and Mark DiPietro of Keene, N.H.; a daughter, Rosemary Stankiewicz of Peabody; a brother, Louis DiPietro of Belmont; a sister, Evelyn M. DiPietro, ASC of Columbia, Penn.; and seven grandchildren.

Henry Marchewka, 87; proud veteran
Henry L. Marchewka of Peabody always looked forward to marching in the Memorial Day parade with his fellow veterans. Mr. Marchewka, who served as an Army sergeant during World War II, died March 4 at the Peabody Glen Nursing Center in Peabody. He was 87.

Mr. Marchewka was born in Peabody, where he was educated and remained his entire life. During his military service he was attached to the 957th Ordinance Heavy Automotive Maintenance Company.

He worked for several years at the A.C. Lawrence Leather Company in Peabody until it closed.He returned to school and even-tually became a technician atMIT, where he remained until 1982.

Mr. Marchewka was an offering collector at St. Joseph's Church, which he helped build. He was a member of St. Michael's Society, the Knights of Columbus Leo Council 508, and the VFWFidelity Post 101, all in Peabody. He enjoyed golfing, bowling,gardening, and following the sporting events of his grandchildren.

He was married to the late Sophie (Katin) Marchewka.

Mr. Marchewka leaves a son, Charles Marchewka of Duxbury;a daughter, Karen Cahill ofPeabody; a sister, Sabina Bridge of Nashua, N.H.; six grand-children; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
