Girl, 14, suffers 'savage' beating by other teens, T officials say

A 14-year-old Cohasset High School Metco student was attacked yesterday by several other teenagers in an assault MBTA officials described as savage.

The girl was robbed, beaten, and left on the train tracks near the Adams Street MBTA station in Milton about 3:30 p.m., police officials said. She was taken to Milton Hospital, where she underwent a CAT scan and was treated for head and body injuries caused by being punched and stomped on, officials said.

The girl was later released from the hospital, police said. Her family declined to comment last night when approached by a reporter at their Dorchester home.

Metco, or the Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity, is an independent organization funded by the state that transports minority-group children from Boston to suburban schools.

Four 15-year-old girls from Boston were arrested at the scene and charged with unarmed robbery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (a shod foot) in the beating. At least a half dozen more youths were being questioned about the assault last night, police said.

The four girls charged in the beating are students at Madison Park High School and TechBoston at the Dorchester Educational Complex, police said. The suspects were still at the T station when police arrived, said Joe Pesaturo, a T spokesman.

''At least one suspect knew the victim prior to this," Pesaturo said. ''There's a history going back two or three months ago, involving messaging online."

Pesaturo described the attack as brutal. Witnesses called Milton police, and a trolley operator radioed for help. ''They were punching and kicking her repeatedly," Pesaturo said.
