Frank L. Sullivan; was police officer

TEWKSBURY -- Frank J. Sullivan, 83, a longtime Tewksbury police officer, died July 29 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Chelmsford.

Born in Somerville, Mr. Sullivan lived in Tewksbury throughout his life.

During World War II, he enlisted in the Navy, where he served aboard minesweeper ships in the Aleutian Islands, Philippines, and China. Mr. Sullivan was a Tewksbury police officer for 32 years, retiring as an inspector in 1986.

He served Tewksbury as inspector of weights and measures for more than 34 years and as a call firefighter from 1948 to 1954.

He leaves his wife of 57 years, Theresa D. (LeBel); a daughter, Karen Ware, of Lowell; eight sisters, Eleanor Edge of Chelmsford, Catherine Doak of Florida, Marie Nolan of Tewksbury, Jean LaMarre of New Ipswich, N.H., Patricia Duffett of Hudson, N.H., Carol Chariter of Londonderry, N.H., Janet Martin of Litchfield, N.H., and Rita Hassett of Chelmsford; and three brothers, David of Tewksbury, Patrick of Wakefield, and James of Tewksbury.

Walter J. Shannon; ran family farm

WOBURN -- Walter J. Shannon, 86, of Woburn, a farmer, died July 29 at Winchester Hospital.

Born and educated in Woburn, Mr. Shannon graduated from Woburn High School in 1937. He attended Boston University at night, working on his family's farm during the day. Shannon Farms, started by Mr. Shannon's grandfather, was later run by Mr. Shannon, his brother, and his cousin.

Mr. Shannon was a member of the New England Flower Growers Association and vice president of the New England Vegetable Growers Association. He enjoyed taking cruises with his wife to the Caribbean, the Panama Canal, and Bermuda.

Mr. Shannon leaves his wife of 59 years, Helen E. (Carlson); two daughters, Sandra H. Schmitt of Woburn and Elaine C. Mordenti of North Carolina; two sons, Walter J. Jr. and Jim, both of Woburn; a brother, Warren H., of Woburn; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Angelo P. Squeglia, cable repairman

LOWELL -- Angelo Peter Squeglia, 79, of Lowell, a quarryman and cable repairman, died July 29 at the D'Youville Manor Senior Care Center in Lowell.

Mr. Squeglia was born in Lowell and graduated from Lowell High School. He served with the Marine Corps during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946.

After the war, he worked as a quarryman at H.E. Fletcher's Quarry in Westford and later as a cable repairman with Independent Cable Corp. in Hudson, N.H., until his retirement in 1985. He was a parishioner at the Notre Dame de Lourdes Church in Lowell.

He leaves two daughters, Josephine M. Garside of Pepperell and Patricia Anne Rivera of Hudson, N.H.; a sister, Camala Christman of Lowell; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Raymond Papagno, retired plumber

READING -- Raymond A. Papagno, 76, of Reading, a retired plumber, died July 30 at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading.

Born and raised in Quincy, Mr. Papagno was a member of the Plumbers Union Local 12 and worked on commercial development for companies, including P.J. Riley Co. and Daniel Mazza Co.

He served in the Naval Reserve, where he was trained as a helmsman for submarines. During the Korean War, he was inducted into the Army.

He leaves three daughters, Pialisa Manent of Wilmington, Paula Minichiello of Burlington, and Pamela Sacco of Lexington; two sons, Romito ''Raymond" A. of Woburn and Stephen P. of Burlington; three brothers, Matteo of Medford, Anthony of Marshfield, and Robert of Quincy; four sisters, Connie Parks of Brockton, Rachael Pearl Papagno of Hingham, Maria Spagnaletti of Conn., and Anna Elrich of Norwell; and 10 grandchildren.
