Pumpkin-patch chess in Cohasset

COHASSET -- For Halloween, Phil Lehr designed a 2,500-square-foot chess board, complete with 8-foot-tall figures, using nearly 3,000 pumpkins.

''The pieces can be moved so visitors can actually play a game of chess," said Lehr. ''The pawns are ghosts; one side white and the other side black."

The interactive design can be found at the Appalachia Service Project pumpkin patch at Wheelwright Park off North Main Street. It is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day through Halloween. ROBERT CARROLL
