Hull seeks delay on natural gas terminal action

HULL -- Selectmen have voted to ask the Legislature not to take action on a proposal to build a natural gas terminal on a Boston Harbor island off Hull until the town has had time to fully study the proposal.

''We don't have enough information," said Selectman Chris Olivieri, the board's chairman. ''We haven't had time to read the legislation."

AES Corp. of Virginia has asked the Legislature to act on its plan to build a gas tank on Outer Brewster Island, 2 miles from Hull, before it goes into recess Wednesday.

Olivieri said last week that the Legislature is unlikely to act quickly on the AES proposal, since it recently created a committee to study the state's regulations on siting liquefied natural gas facilities. The Legislature is responding to proposals by companies to build LNG facilities at various locations in the state, Olivieri said.
