2 officers reported found dead in W. Hartford home

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- Two police officers were found dead in an apparent murder-suicide last night, according to several broadcast reports.

West Hartford police would not immediately identify the victims or confirm whether they were police officers. Authorities said the families of the two people were being notified.

Earlier in the evening, Sergeant J. Paul Vance, a State Police spokesman, said a municipal police officer had been shot.

Several television stations reported the victims were Ciara McDermott, a Newington police officer assigned to Newington High School, and State Trooper Victor Diaz, who was accused of drunken driving and received a special form of probation in May.

Officers were called to a home on Ridgewood Road shortly after 6 p.m. and found a dead woman at the scene, police said. Tactical teams, police dogs, and a State Police helicopter searched the area, but did not find anything.

About 9:15 p.m., officers found a dead man in the house where the woman's body was discovered, police said. Authorities then ended their search for the gunman.
