Arlington's Clint Schwamb was named the Massachusetts Youth Girls Coach of the Year last weekend for 10 years of dedication to the sport. ''I started coaching without knowing anything about soccer, but picked it up and fell in love with the sport," he said in a written statement. Though his daughter no longer plays soccer, Schwamb has remained a coach for the Arlington Soccer Club. ''Instead of having only a few star players, on Clint's team all the girls were stars and the team was the better for it," wrote Christine and Bill Foreman of Arlington in their nomination letter for Schwamb. The award was presented at a ceremony at the Boxborough Holiday Inn.
15 MINUTES OF FAME: Boxborough filmmaker Todd Davis is screening his short film ''In the Tradition of My Family" today at the Boston Underground Film Festival. His movie, based on the story by Phil LaMarche, is about a violent family ritual and its effect on a father and son. The film was shot entirely in Boxborough and had local crew: Arlington's Austin de Besche as director of photography and Harvard's Mario Cardenas as sound mixer. Michael Berenbaum, an Emmy Award-winning editor for the TV show ''Desperate Housewives," edited the film. It won an audience award for best short at the Washington, D.C., Independent Film Festival. Davis's work will screen at 3 p.m. at the Brattle Theatre in Cambridge.

THE ARTIST'S MIND: Andover artist and illustrator Vicky Enright will talk about the process of putting together children's books at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Andover Bookstore. Enright drew the pictures for Susan Allen's new book, ''Written Anything Good Lately," which is an alphabet book on the many types of writing that includes images from Andover. Enright is also known for her book ''Read Anything Good Lately?" and ''It's a Beautiful Day." After her reading, Enright will give the children a writing project.
CHILDREN'S CLASSIC: Salem, N.H.'s Jimmy Doyle will take the North Shore Music Theatre's stage along with eight other young performers and four adults in a production of the favorite children's tale ''Lilly's Plastic Purse" on April 8 at 10 a.m. The cast will also perform for school groups April 4 through 6. The book was written by Kevin Henkes 10 years ago. The Youth Performance Academy, which will stage the production, won last year's Junior Theater Festival's Outstanding Achievement in Musical Performance and in choreography for Disney's ''Cinderella Kids" show. BELTING IT OUT: Arlington's Jennifer Truesdale, Windham's Jillian Wheeler, and West Medford's Vykki Vox and Justin Kolack are trying to raise money for music in the public schools when they put on their Chick Singer Night benefit concert at Johnny D's in Somerville on April 13. Several other female singers will also perform, including Jessica Brooks and Emily Grogan. ''There is an overwhelming abundance of talented youth in our community, and we, as musicians . . . feel it is most important for us to help nurture the next generation," Truesdale said in a written statement.
