Emptoris buys Calif. company

Emptoris Inc., a Burlington-based software company, has acquired diCarta Inc. of Silicon Valley, creating a company that offers a variety of contract management software products.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed, though Forrester Research Inc. estimates that Emptoris and diCarta have combined annual revenue of $100 million. The new company will operate under the Emptoris name and be headquartered at the Burlington office on Wheeler Road. About 300 of the company's 360 employees will be based in Burlington, according to Avner Schneur, who will remain Emptoris's president and chief executive officer.

The combined company's software products enable companies to manage their spending on supplies. ''It's interesting that even very large corporations are not very good at knowing how they spend their money and where they spend their money," Schneur said in an interview.

Schneur said the software can track whether suppliers are complying with contract terms, and can also analyze spending options, helping companies negotiate terms of their contracts.
