Going the distance

Some of today's Boston Marathoners set out from Hopkinton with hopes of a strong finishing time. To others, time is secondary -- the distance and merciless terrain are challenge enough. And then there are the people who are running for a chosen cause or personal inspiration; for them, the race can be as much tribute as competition. Here are some of their stories.
