Help available for housing; translators needed

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Boston is offering assistance for basic needs, particularly food and rent and mortgage assistance, to those affected by the region's recent flooding.

The assistance is made possible through partnership with other agencies, including the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the City of Lawrence, and the City of Lowell.

Residents of Lawrence and Haverhill who qualify for assistance can apply for food vouchers and rent and mortgage assistance by calling 978-685-5930.

Qualified Lowell residents should call 978-452-1421.

Meanwhile, the Red Cross and the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency are seeking bilingual volunteers to help at centers that have been set up around Lawrence.

Translators are needed at the centers from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Call the Lawrence Office of Planning and Development at 978-794-5892.
