HALIFAX -- Ramona "Rae" (Reinstein) Schubert, who worked as a psychic and a tarot card reader for more than 40 years, had special mind-reading abilities, according to her daughter, Eloise Evans of Rockland.
"She always knew she had it," Evans said. "She wanted to develop it, and so she studied it. She was good."
Mrs. Schubert, also known as Madame Rae, died Oct. 29 at Brockton Hospital. She was 81.
Born in Boston and raised in Springfield, Vt., and Claremont, N.H., Mrs. Schubert lived in Quincy for 12 years, Weymouth for 18 years, and Rockland for 25 years before moving to Halifax seven years ago.
At her mother's dance company, Ramona Studios in Quincy, Mrs. Schubert was an assistant and a dance teacher for 15 years. She later worked as a salesperson at Filene's department store in the South Shore Plaza for six years, and as a filing clerk at the Weymouth Police Department for four years, before retiring in 1977.
Mrs. Schubert worked as a psychic and a tarot card reader from her home, and over the course of four decades "helped a lot of people," Evans said. "She had a lot of people go to see her just through word of mouth, as people would say, 'I had my cards read, and you wouldn't believe what she said.' She had this psychic ability."
Evans added that her mother did many readings for free, and welcomed anyone into her home. "It didn't matter anyone's past ," she said.
Mrs. Schubert was a line dancer with the Dot Dunham group in Rockland, Weymouth, and Hanson. She did volunteer work at the Rockland Council on Aging, and was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 22 years.
In addition to her daughter, she leaves her husband, William; three other daughters, Mona Scott of Las Vegas, Maureen Scott-Lofgren of Seattle, and Deborah Baker of Hyde Park; nine grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Nov. 3 at the C.C. Shepherd Funeral Home in Weymouth.![]()
