Two people were killed and at least nine others were injured, some critically, in six crashes last night during a dangerous evening on roadways in Massachusetts.
As two people attempted to cross Route 1 south in Saugus just after 11:30 p.m., a vehicle struck both , killing one of them, according to State Police. Officials were searching for the vehicle, which fled the scene.

Emergency workers called for a medical helicopter, but because of overcast conditions the aircraft were grounded, said Fire Lieutenant David Prockett . White was taken by ambulance to UMass Medical Center in Worcester, where he was pronounced dead.
In Roxbury, a woman, whom police did not identify but described as being in her late teens, was critically injured when a car struck her as she walked near 1176 Tremont St. at 6:50 p.m. The woman was taken to Boston Medical Center, police said.
Also in Roxbury, a three-car collision at Harrison Avenue and Melnea Cass Boulevard sent one person to Boston Medical Center for treatment of neck and back pain. No other injuries were reported in the 7:30 p.m. accident, police said.
In Southborough, five people, including a 7-month-old infant, were injured in a four-car collision around 6 p.m. that shut down part of Route 30 for about an hour. All of the victims were taken to UMass Memorial Marlborough Hospital or UMass Medical Center in Worcester. One of the victims was in serious condition, and the others were in stable condition, police said.
In Revere, Route 1 south was shut down for about 45 minutes as emergency personnel worked at the scene of a single-car crash at 8:15 p.m. State Police said a 17-year-old driving a 2000
A 17-year-old female passenger, who was ejected from the car and seriously injured, was also taken to MGH, State Police said. Neither victim was wearing a seat belt, and police said they believe speed may have been a factor.
In allsix accidents, no charges were filed, but police said they were investigating.![]()
