Academy gets deserved attention

Thank you so much for an outstanding job capturing the essence of the life and history of Esperanza Academy ("For young Latinas, hope," Globe NorthWest, Dec. 31). Your piece has already generated response to our website and has even prompted Marisa Treviño, a Dallas freelance writer, to compare our school to Oprah Winfrey's in South Africa on her blog, Latina Lista.

For the past year, I have been telling folks that Esperanza will get Oprah's attention. We need the attention of people like Oprah with deep pockets and a commitment to the ministry of education to help educate girls -- one child at a time.
