One killed, three injured in shooting
Violence rattles Roxbury street
One person was killed and three others were hurt in an apparent drive-by shooting last night in Roxbury, police said.
The victims were in front of a three-story house on Maywood Street when a car drove by and shots were fired just after 6 p.m., said Deputy Superintendent Pat Crossen.
As the shots rang out, some men in the group scattered. Three were shot, and another sustained a broken arm while running away, police said.
Three of the men were taken to Boston Medical Center and one to Brigham and Women's Hospital. Last night, one shooting victim was in serious condition with wounds considered to be life-threatening, and the other was in stable condition, police said.
Police detained four witnesses to the shooting near the scene last night. The mother of one witness was walking home when she saw her son being detained by police.
"They just came by and sprayed," the woman said, referring to the shooting. The woman, who declined to give her name, spoke with police for a short time before she pick ed up her son.
A neighbor who has lived on Maywood Street for five years said she has heard gunshots and witnessed violence on her street before. "There's just so much violence going on, it's scary," she said.
The neighbor was in her kitchen brushing her 15-year-old granddaughter's hair when the shots rang out. "It was so loud. I just heard the boom and thought maybe the roof was coming down," she said .
The person who died, whom police would only identify as a male, was the city's sixth homicide victim of the year, one fewer than at this time last year.![]()
