Boy flees during home invasion

Youngster found hiding nearby

A terrified 11-year-old boy fled from a friend's Hyde Park townhouse during an armed home invasion, sparking a response in which officers from every police district in the city joined in the search, before the youngster was located a few houses away.

Police were still searching last night for two men who entered the Georgetowne Place home just before 9 p.m. and robbed the people inside at gunpoint, said Deputy Superintendent Rafael Ruiz. The suspects took electronic items, including an iPod and a video game system. No injuries were reported.

The hunt for the boy involved the department's emergency deployment team, which went door to door in the neighborhood and searched the nearby Stony Brook Reservation for more than 90 minutes.

Dedham police and the complex's security force also joined in the search.

The boy was found about 10:30 p.m. at a nearby residence. A woman at the townhouse shut the door on reporters.

No arrests had been made by last night.
