Boston police yesterday identified the man shot to death Wednesday outside a pizzeria on Blue Hill Avenue. James Williams , 24, of Dorchester, was shot multiple times and died from his wounds. No arrests have been made.
Police arrest six from Dorchester
Boston police yesterday announced the arrests of six people as part of Operation Court Service, a collaboration of Boston police and other agencies focused on getting individuals with outstanding court issues off the streets. The six suspects are all residents of Dorchester. Those arrested and the charges are Roberto Ramos, 18, assault and battery; Joaquim Martins, 29, possession of a Class B substance with intent to distribute; Frederico Fernandes, 32, larceny over $250; Michael Depina, 18, possession of alcohol by a person under 21; Gilson Veiga, 22, providing a false name and operating without a license; and Jamal Brodie, 19, receiving a stolen motor vehicle and possession with intent to distribute.Nantucket baby is sent to Hub for care
A newborn boy in Nantucket in need of urgent, advanced medical care was flown to a Boston hospital by the Coast Guard, the hospital announced . The newborn, who was not identified, was having difficulty breathing Wednesday night. Two men suffered serious injuries yesterday after they were struck by a cab and pinned against a pickup truck from which they were unloading luggage at Logan International Airport's Terminal B, according to State Police. Yassir Mari , 29, of Melrose, had exited the taxi to drop off a passenger when his vehicle rolled forward at about 4:50 p.m. Daniel Kass , 45, of Saugus, the owner of the Chevrolet truck, and Kevin Leonard , 47, of Fairfax, Va., were injured , police said. The two were transported to Massachusetts General Hospital . Kass received severe leg injuries, and Leonard suffered life-threatening injuries to his legs and lower body.TAUNTON
Windy, dry conditions lead to fire warning
The National Weather Service yesterday issued another red-flag warning for the region, meaning that sunny conditions, winds, and low humidity have combined to create an increased risk of brush or forest fires. Firefighters in Bellingham battled a brush fire Thursday near Interstate 495. Yesterday was the third consecutive day for the warning. Maine native, 25, dies in Afghanistan
Army Sergeant Edmund Wayne McDonald, who grew up in Casco, was killed this week in a crash while riding in a military convoy in Afghanistan, Governor John Baldacci said yesterday. Survey finds half of women report abuse
More than half of New Hampshire's women have been abused, and almost one-fifth say they have been raped, according to survey results released yesterday. Women who report sexual and physical assault also more frequently report having a chronic disease or medical problem than those who don't. Man to serve six years for cannery fire
A Bath man found guilty of setting the largest fire in the city's history, a blaze that destroyed the former Stinson Cannery last spring, is headed to prison for six years. Franklin Dolliver Jr., 23, was sentenced Thursday to 14 years, with all but six years suspended, and four years of probation following his release. He also was ordered to pay a total of $20,000 in restitution to a family whose house sustained heat damage and to Bath and 11 other communities that fought the May 4 fire.
