Just before 9 last night, Teddy Tambaadis heard gunshots outside his Roxbury pizza parlor and dropped to the ground.

"We couldn't see anything, but we heard the shots, about four or five, and knew to get down," said Tambaadis, owner of Papa Reno's pizza, at 258 Dudley St.

Police patrolling the area also heard gunfire and arrived to find a man in his mid-20s suffering from multiple gunshot wounds outside the pizza shop.

Moments later, police began chasing a red Chevrolet speeding the wrong way down Mount Pleasant Street, away from the scene, authorities said .

The car crashed at 80 Mount Pleasant, where two of the three suspects inside were arrested, according to police.

The third suspect, who ran away, was captured soon after, and a firearm was found in the car, police said.

As police collected evidence around at least eight yellow markers in front of Papa Reno's, neighbors Robin Martinez and Fair Williams observed the scene from the second-story windows of their Dudley Street apartments.

"I can't come out of my house anymore," said Martinez, who was watching television when she heard shots. "I'm on two different medications because I have a fear of going outside now."

Williams also was concerned. "I just hope it isn't anybody we know," she said.

Police said a bystander took the victim, who was unidentified, to Boston Medical Center.

The man was rushed into surgery for what police described as grave injuries.
