Slain teen's mother gets call, prayer
At first, Rugiatu Kallon thought she would be helping a group of stranded motorists, but instead she found herself praying yesterday with the mother of a 16-year-old boy who was stabbed to death Tuesday night.
Kallon said she had parked her car yesterday morning on Havelock Street near her job at a beauty salon on Blue Hill Avenue when she noticed a cluster of women on the sidewalk.
She thought they had a flat tire, but quickly learned that they were viewing a crime scene and that one of the women was the mother of a teenager who was attacked by group of males Tuesday night and whose blood stained the sidewalk.
"She was crying," Kallon said of the mother. "She said he was just 16."
Kallon called her minister on her cellphone, who led Kallon, the mother, and three of the mother's friends in prayer.
Boston police did not release the victim's identity. Police said he was rushed to Boston Medical Center 7:47 p.m. Tuesday where he was later pronounced dead of multiple stab wounds. Authorities said six or seven males attacked him. Investigators believe the attack was not random.
The savagery of the crime infuriated one Dorchester minister. "To actually physically plunge a knife into someone and hear it rip into their flesh -- you have to be mean spiritually and angry to do something like that," said the Rev. William E. Dickerson of Greater Love Tabernacle, who said he did not know the victim.
