Hyde Park teen dies in Attleboro accident

A Hyde Park teenager died early yesterday after he apparently lost control of his car on Interstate 95 in Attleboro and was thrown from the vehicle as it rolled over, State Police said.

The 17-year-old victim's name was not released. He was the only occupant in his 1998 Acura Integra and no other vehicles were involved.

The car, traveling south in the left lane, hit a guardrail and rolled several times. The crash is under investigation and police said alcohol did not appear to be a factor.

The accident occurred at 5:47 a.m., just before Memorial Day traffic had begun to build up, but a resulting investigation by State Police forced the closure of three lanes for several hours, causing congestion problems for motorists traveling to area beaches and other destinations.

In another accident early yesterday, an unidentified man was critically injured when he apparently lost control of his 2004 Nissan Altima on Storrow Drive near the Clarendon Street off ramp, struck a sport utility vehicle and hit the median barrier, then rolled over. The crash occurred just before 3 a.m. Authorities said the injured man, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital.

The driver of the SUV was not injured.

The section of Storrow Drive was closed for about three hours, police said.

State Police also reported a three-car accident on Route 1 in Peabody yesterday morning. One person was taken to Beverly Hospital with minor injuries. The accident occurred at the northbound section of the highway known as the " jug handle," according to Lieutenant Bill Powers of the State Police.
