Center sues fired worker to recover funds
MANCHESTER, N.H. -- The Crotched Mountain rehabilitation center has sued a former employee who was fired after the center discovered more than $1 million was missing, and asserts that the worker's family was involved in the disappearance of the money, The Keene Sentinel reported.
The documents, filed in Hillsborough Superior Court in Manchester, seek the return of at least $660,000 from Linda D. Bevins of Deering.
The suit also names her husband, Michael D. Bevins, and her daughter, Holly A. Sears of Greenville.
No one has been charged with a crime in the disappearance of the funds.
News of the lawsuit came a day after the center reported that an unnamed employee in the finance department was fired, accused of taking about $1.3 million since 2004. Greenfield police and the attorney general's office are investigating.
A news release from the center on Tuesday said Crotched Mountain was pursuing legal action to recover the funds.
The center employs nearly 1,000 people and has a $50 million budget to provide services for people with disabilities, including major brain injuries.
Calls left for Donald Shumway, president and chief executive of Crotched Mountain, and for a spokesman for the center were not immediately returned. ![]()
