David Ortiz paid $240,000 for his 2005 Mercedes-Benz convertible SL65 AMG, which he is selling on eBay. Ortiz said he "personally will hand it to the person that buys it at Fenway."

For sale: A 2005 Mercedes-Benz convertible SL65 AMG with a 6.0-liter twin-turbo charged engine that rockets from 0 to 60 in less than four seconds.

Mileage: 4,034, mostly to and from Fenway Park.

Color: Red Sox red.

Special features: An interior panel embossed with a baseball diamond and the initials D and O. Twenty-inch chrome wheels inscribed with the black letter D against a red background.

Asking price: $169,000 and rising on eBay.

Seller: "It's coming from me -- Big Papi, man," Red Sox slugger David Ortiz said yesterday by telephone. "I personally will hand it to the person that buys it at Fenway."

Ortiz, the Red Sox slugger and admitted muscle-car addict, is selling the convertible he bought as a gift for himself after the 2004 World Series. He paid $240,000 for the car with accessories, which include a window-rattling stereo and other little touches that make it an Ortiz original.

"It's just one of my beauties," he said. "It has an unbelievable engine. I got it red and it was because of the Red Sox. And the interior is black and red, just like the Red Sox."

With a garage full of exotic cars, Ortiz placed the convertible on eBay last week. Tens of thousands of people have ogled the car online, but few have placed bids in an auction scheduled to end tomorrow. Once the car sells, Ortiz may buy another, higher-end vehicle, if he has something to celebrate this fall. "After we win the World Series this year," Ortiz said with a deep, Big Papi laugh.
