With a few days left in its monthlong campaign, the Children's Metamorphosis Museum in Derry, N.H., announced Wednesday that it will stay open.
A debt of about $30,000 in unpaid rent incurred over the past year caused the landlord, Derry Depot Square Holdings, to issue a demand for rent on July 18. The possibility that the museum would lose its space caused the Met to examine its financial situation, and it said it probably would have to close on Aug. 31.
But the fund-raiser has allowed the museum to settle with its landlord and stay open for the foreseeable future.
"Just a month ago, it felt like the 16-year-old vision for a fun, educational, affordable local children's museum had come crashing down around us," said Tracy LaPlante, executive director of the Met. "Now we're grateful and excited about creating a whole new future . . . built with energetic new people, a fantastic financial infusion, and a great deal of new fiscal wisdom."![]()
